HISTORY OF THE MILL... YESTERDAY AND TODAY

The middle portion of the Mulino di Rimaggio was built in the second half of the XVIII century.

It is the second of a series of three water mills that were named after the Borro di Rimaggio (Rimaggio Stream), from which they drew the water that was kept in large mill ponds shaped like a drop, called "gore".

From here the chutes sent the water to the typical system of horizontal paddles that moved the mill stones, these in turn ground the various types of grain and chestnuts.

Originally this series of mills was part of the Fontebussi Farm owned by the Hospital of Fiesole: every day carts would leave the mills to take supplies of flour, oil and meat to the hospital.

Over time the three mills have been converted to meet the housing needs of the millers' numerous families.
The first, although now in poor condition, is still functioning today and was used by the last "miller" Adriano Tanzini, now 84 years old. The third mill fell into ruin.

Hay Loft

The second, the real Mulino di Rimaggio, is the one we recuperated, both to enjoy for ourselves and spend pleasant relaxing days there in winter - and to share its beauty in the spring and summer with you by renting it out for short periods.

The property is protected under the Fine Arts Department so all the conversions were carried out using original materials (stone, terracotta, travertine, chestnut wood)

The colours too, both inside and out, reflect those of the Ricasolian farm houses.

All the work was masterly carried out by local craftsmen, Marino, Mario and Fabrizio who knew how to "materialise" our dreams but at the same time respect the rigid restrictions of the Belle Arti, Department of Fine Arts.

Everything in wrought iron (from the windows to the gates and more) was made by Osvaldo Corbucci, expert and creative master blacksmith.

It has taken 10 years to complete, all followed with the patience and experience of our surveyor Mario Masoni who helped with our designs.
